PV Thunder is pleased to be able to provide college scholarship support to an outstanding graduating player each year who embodies the spirit and values of Potomac Valley Thunder. The scholarship was established in memory of PVT parent Kevin Fandl, an accomplished university professor and tireless supporter of PV Thunder basketball.
Who is eligible for PVT scholarship support?
Current members of PV Thunder graduating from high school and attending an accredited institution of higher education in the coming year are eligible to apply for the scholarship.
How much scholarship support will PVT provide?
PV Thunder expects to make two scholarship awards in 2024. First place winner will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship and the second place winner will be awarded $500. The award will be deposited directly into the awardee’s account at the college they attend. The number of awards and award amounts may change in subsequent years.

Interested applicants should submit a personal statement in the form of either a written essay (up to 750 words) or video (up to five minutes), addressing any of the following:
Who will make decisions about the PVT scholarship?
A panel of 5 individuals will evaluate applications. The panel will typically consist of PV Thunder’s Board of Directors. If a member of the panel is related or has coached any of the applicants, that individual will recuse themselves from the decision process and be replaced with another leadership/coach of PVT.
When are applications due, and when will decisions be made?
